Bio
Darcy Whent (b. 2002, Wales) is a Welsh painter based in Bristol, UK. Working primarily in oil on linen, she creates psychologically charged figurative paintings that explore folklore, memory and the cultural histories surrounding women's testimony. Drawing upon family mythology, oral histories and domestic space, Whent constructs symbolic narratives that blur the boundaries between autobiography, fiction and collective memory, examining how identity is shaped through the stories we inherit, repeat and choose to believe.
.In 2026 she presents Soft Bodies, Hard Frames, her debut US solo exhibition Kristin Hjellegerde gallery's West Palm Beach space, alongside a solo exhibition with Twilight Contemporary in London. Her work has been exhibited internationally in London, New York, San Francisco and Miami, and has been featured by Wallpaper*, METAL Magazine, WePresent, BRICKS Magazine, OVERSTANDARD and Studio Viève. In 2026 she was named by WGSN as an Artist to Watch.
Her work has been recognised through the Delphian Gallery Open Call, the Ingram Prize, the Homiens Art Prize and the ACS Studio Prize, and she has undertaken residencies in Italy, Scotland and the UK. Whent lives and works in Bristol.
